Why Arguments and Debates on the Trinity are a Waste of Time
by AllTimeJeff inthis isn't meant to be a shit stirring topic, just a thought or two, a memory really, from my jw days.
because i know i have more experience then most on debating the veracity of the trinity..... there are two camps, people of faith, and people of math.. people of faith will always be more convinced of the trinity every day, because for the most part, the teachers of the trinity are very up front about the fact that it is a mystery.. so the more you point out how illogical it is, the more a mystery the trinity becomes, and thus, it also becomes more real.
awesome!

@Akjeff- Excellent points, I don't think that I can add much, except this.. As an agnostic I can see that blind faith can't be argued with, but also that even facts/evidence can be misunderstood or ignored at the same time. (I say that in relation to the statement that there is no evidence for a God.) Unless I've missed something, evolutionary theory still hasn't conclusively proven how it is that living matter sprang from non-living matter, or even where the non-living matter came from, that life didn't come from an intelligient Creator, and so if the theory of evolution hasn't been proven, and neither has the theory of creation been proven beyond doubt, who knows if those who have faith in a God are wrong? Regarding blind faith, here's a scripture that I think is relevant.. (Just to show that you can't argue with faith in something that can't be seen) http://www.watchtower.org/e/bible/heb/chapter_011.htm "Hebrews 11:1-40 1 Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld. 2 For by means of this the men of old times had witness borne to them. 3 By faith we perceive that the systems of things were put in order by God’s word, so that what is beheld has come to be out of things that do not appear." "13 In faith all these died, although they did not get the [fulfillment of the] promises, but they saw them afar off and welcomed them and publicly declared that they were strangers and temporary residents in the land."

Something that always confused me: Jesus had the nature of God, healed people, loved everyone, and spoke to sinners, even eating with them! Yet today he clearly doesn't heal anyone, and doesn't even speak directly to people who believe in him, let alone wicked people.. And, despite the scriptures that mention the Apostles performing powerful works greater even than well-renowned magicians, nobody does anything like that anymore, and the only evidence for belief in Jesus is contained in a very old book that God seemingly forgot to update with new info on blood transfusions etc. , that contains so many myths, errors and inconsistencies that very few seem to even believe it is entirely inerrant and inspired by God anymore. The Bible can't even seem to be proven to be historically accurate.. Why would Jesus stop proving that he exists by curing people, or has he lost interest in mankind? The imperfection/sovereignty issue/other excuses some may come up with should still have applied when he performed miracles, or when YHWH gave the Law on tablets and shook the mountains, and when he made a large pillar of fire to guide people in the wilderness etc.

To be fair, on the subject of the NWT inserting [other], I think that this scripture is relevant.. 1 Corinthians 15:27 >> New International Version (©1984) For he "has put everything under his feet." Now when it says that "everything" has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ. New Living Translation (©2007) For the Scriptures say,"God has put all things under his authority." (Of course, when it says "all things are under his authority," that does not include God himself, who gave Christ his authority.) English Standard Version (©2001) For “God has put all things in subjection under his feet.” But when it says, “all things are put in subjection,” it is plain that he is excepted who put all things in subjection under him. New American Standard Bible (©1995) For HE HAS PUT ALL THINGS IN SUBJECTION UNDER HIS FEET. But when He says,"All things are put in subjection," it is evident that He is excepted who put all things in subjection to Him. International Standard Version (©2008) for "God has put everything under his feet."Now when he says,"Everything has been put under him," this clearly excludes the one who put everything under him. GOD'S WORD® Translation (©1995) Clearly, God has put everything under Christ's authority. When God says that everything has been put under Christ's authority, this clearly excludes God, since God has put everything under Christ's authority. King James Bible For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith, all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him.

You mean this? --"Mr Cameron said the programme - currently lasting three weeks duringthe summer - would be compulsory for every 16-year-old and would capture the spirit of national service."- Not likely to make much of an impact.. http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/7733/1/WTS-Deception-on-Alternative-Military-Service

@Tyre- No, I don't know what translation you are reading. It speaks of a 'new heavens and a new earth.. the former things will not be called to mind'. There's no reason this has to be literal either, see here... http://bible.cc/isaiah/65-17.htm "The passage before us is highly poetical, and we are not required to understand it literally. There is, so far as the language is concerned, no more reason for understanding this literally than there is for so understanding the numerous declarations which affirm that the brute creation will undergo a change in their very nature, on the introduction of the gospel Isaiah 11 ; and all that the language necessarily implies is, that there would be changes in the condition of the people of God as great as if the heavens, overcast with clouds and subject to storms, should be recreated, so as to become always mild and serene; or as if the earth, so barren inmany places, should become universally fertile and beautiful. The immediate reference here is, doubtless, to the land of Palestine, and to the important changes which would be produced there on the return of the exiles;but it cannot be doubted that, under this imagery, there was couched a reference to far more important changes and blessings in future times under the Messiah - changes as great as if a barren and sterile world should become universally beautiful and fertile. For the former shall not be remembered - That is, that which shall be created shall be so superior in beauty as entirely to eclipse the former. The sense is, that the future condition of the people of God would be as superior to what it was in ancient times as would be a newly created earth and heaven superior in beauty to this -where the heavens are so often obscured by clouds, and where the earth is so extensively desolate or barren."

@Tyre- Psalm 102:25-26 "Long ago you laid the foundations of the earth itself, And the heavens are the work of your hands. 26 They themselves will perish, but you yourself will keep standing; And just like a garment they will all of them wear out. Just like clothing you will replace them, and they will finish their turn." Isaiah 51:6 "Raise YOUR eyes to the heavens themselves, and look at the earth beneath. For the very heavens must be dispersed in fragments just like smoke, and like a garment the earth itself will wear out, and its inhabitants themselves will die like a mere gnat. But as for my salvation, it will prove to be even to time indefinite, and my own righteousness will not be shattered." Matthew 24:34-35 "Truly I say to YOU that this generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur. 35 Heaven and earth will passaway, but my words will by no means pass away." Hebrews 1:10-12 "You at [the] beginning, O Lord, laid the foundations of the earth itself, and the heavens are [the] works of your hands. 11 They themselves will perish, but you yourself are to remain continually; and just like an outer garment they willall grow old, 12 and you will wrap them up just as a cloak, as an outer garment; and they will be changed, but you are the same, and your years will never run out." - The earth will wear out, doesn't indicate it might end tomorrow.. God might create a new earth..

Steve2- Thanks for the advice! Wobble- Feel free to play devils advocate if you like, but seeing as its my thread, if I start making arguments against my own claim, it would be like I was sat here talking to myself. It's for others to present evidence to the contrary.. Roddy- What evidence can you show me? Do you have any that isn't symbolic or clearly directed to people centuries ago? Pistoff- I might agree, but this thread is aimed at those who believe in the Bible and think the world is going to end at any moment..

Tyre- Thanks for replying, but.. There's no evidence that Isaiah was directed to us in our day, Revelation is highly symbolic and people pick and choose what is literal and what isn't, and if 2 Peter (new heavens and new earth scripture) was even written by Peter, he finished it at the latest in 68 CE. What else could he have been talking about? 70 CE perhaps? Heaven and Earth can be symbolic, heaven could even simply represent authority. See here... http://www.biblebasicsonline.com/english/Study03ThePromisesofGod/D09DestructionofHeavenandEarth.html
